Are Facebook Groups *really* dead?
In this week’s episode, I’m lifting the curtain on why big industry leaders are shutting down their free Facebook communities, how it’s going to affect their sales strategy, and what you should do about yours!
I am kind of excited and kind of scared to talk about this week’s topic, which is Facebook Groups.
1:01 – For three years that I have been online, everyone has been like, “I love Facebook groups! If you want to start your business, get a Facebook group. If you’re running a free challenge, put it in a Facebook group.”
1:25 – I feel like Facebook groups are going to implode at some point. Earlier this year, I feel like we’ve got to a point where they have started to implode.
2:13 – There are no hard and fast rules for setting up your own business.
2:50 – Cutting that dead weight could be liberating.
3:21 – You should have a really good nurture model in your business.
Ultimately, there are only three things you need to do in order to grow your business and to make it successful and sustainable.
3:35 – The first thing is, to grow your business you actually need to grow your audience.
4:00 – The second thing you need to do is to build a relationship with that community you just created.
4:18 – The third thing is then monetizing that community.
It doesn’t matter where that community is based.
5:14 – It doesn’t matter where your community is. It’s about what’s best for your business and how you engage.
6:30 – There are a variety of ways you can build your relationships with your audience and they take different amounts of time.
7:09 – Yes, there are a ton of people shutting down Facebook groups, and some of them are big industry leaders. Some of them are huge groups. Does it matter? Does it mean you have to employ the same strategy? Not necessarily unless you want to.
8:49 – What happened is they created a Facebook group without a mission or purpose. Or perhaps it did once have a great purpose or mission, and then, over time, it just dwindled.
10:21 – It’s not that you can’t make money with your Facebook group. That’s so far from the truth. It’s not that you have to spend every waking hour in your Facebook group.
It’s really about understanding what growth method works for you.
11:27 – If you have a Facebook group that currently is engaged and is a place you enjoy being and that you monetize successfully, don’t just give it up because a bunch of people are.
11:49 – Don’t get rid of the strategy that’s working. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
12:33 – Do what is best for your business always. But don’t listen to the hype.

I spent 14 hours a day, glued to my emails, constantly running to meetings and living off energy drinks and sushi. The final straw came when I realized that I had taken my BlackBerry on holiday. And not only had I taken it to the Mediterranean, I had spent more time typing out emails than I had wandering through the back streets of Florence or punting in Venice.It was time to stop. I wanted to be the woman that had it all; the great job, the financial freedom and the opportunity to actually live like I wanted to… But that wasn’t going to fit with my 14 hour days and my identikit office. So I quit.
